Period 2:
Draft of your experimental design assignment due Tuesday, September 29th. This should be written in your sourcebook.
Periods 3 and 4:
Final Copy of your Experimental Design Assignment due on Tuesday, September 29th.
This must be typed, with the proper heading at the top (WJPS and Living Environment on the top left hand corner AND full name, due date and class period on the top right hand corner)
Staple your assignment handout/rubric to the back of your assignment.

A plant white petals grows in regular soil and a plant with red petals is unknown. A company wants to discover if the ph level of the soil in which it grows has an effect on the petal's color. This is a controlled experiment because it has a control or a variable which does not recieve the independent variable. This is essential to ensure accurate data and conclusions.
To conduct this experiment you will need four plants of the same species placed in the same place such as a windowsill and they must be in individual jars. One jar will have no ph in the soil, the second will have 3ph, third will have 7ph, and fourth will have 10 ph soil.
I predict if a plant has 10 ph soil then it will have darker petals. Two things to keep constant in this experiment is the amount of sunlight and water each plant recieves. You must do this to ensure accurate growth and data. The independent variable is the ph because it effects the color of petals and we control the amount of ph. The c olor of the petals is the dependent variable because we cannot control the color of the petals. The color of the petals must be recorded periodically, this data can be represented in a chart or a graph.
Plant four will have the darkest petals darker than the other plants with lower ph level soil. Controlled experiments such as this will continue to be conducted using the scientific method by scientists.
